The Space
The Deadmau5 modular lab is a separate studio built adjacent to the main Atmos control room. As Deadmau5 owns and uses an extensive collection of synthesizers, the large control room had reached its capacity limit. The decision was made to create a separate studio dedicated to the modular systems and reconfigure the main control room to house more of the integrated synth collection. The modular lab is used to create unique elements which are then ported to the main control room for integration and mixing.
The Design
The design objective was to accommodate a high quantity of modular systems in an ergonomic manner for flexibility and ease of use. The room acoustic design is built around the synth placement. The room features large custom-made Telegrapher Rhino speakers, These speakers are near-field to the main listening position and very capable. The front of the room has full depth wide band sound absorption. The upper side and rear wall surfaces incorporate custom made angular sound absorber modules manufactured by Technature. The front ceiling incorporates 12” thick sound absorption, and the rear ceiling features a walnut sound diffusor similar to that used in the main control room. The net result has the Rhino monitors running comfortably flat at the listening position with no correction.
